Each month every building will have an "Outstanding" student that we will recognize in different areas of our curriculum. All our students are special, but we want to toot our horn about a few each month..
Well done Greyhounds!
Student: Trenton Covello
Age: 5 Grade: Pre-Kindergarten
Nominating Person(s): Great Start Readiness Staff
"Trentyn has very good number sense. He can do mental math (that means without having to use a pencil, manipulatives or fingers!) He can recognize patterns and can even create his own. He is able to count both out-loud by rote and using one-to-one correspondence. He is also has many friends and relates well to his peers in the classroom."
Parent(s)/Guardian(s): Jow & Allison Covello
Student: Phelan Joe Velez
Age: 5 Grade: Kindergarten
Nominating Person(s): Kelly Briggs
"Phelan has shown a wonderful curiosity and interest in math. He is excited about the various shapes he encounters and loves addition, subtraction, counting and especially money! He approaches every math session with an eagerness to learn. Phelan also follows the "B.A.R.K." and is respectful of his peers."
Parent(s)/Guardian(s): Sara Collins & Andrew Valez
Student: Chase Christian Carlson (C-cubed)
Age: 8 Grade: 2nd
Nominating Person(s): Kate Jewett
"Chase is part of a multi-age 1st/2nd grade classroom. He is wonderful about working with boys/girls, 1st/2nd graders, high/low functioning students and he takes the same time and patience with all of them. He chooses to work with a wide variety of students every day and does an excellent job with peer teaching. He takes it upon himself to help others when he is finished with a math activity or will stop what he is doing to help someone around him who has a question. What is impressive is that he does not just "tell" or "give" the student the answer. He actually takes the time to guide them in finding the answer, and then re-teaches if the student does not find it the first time. Chase is one of the most kind, respectful students Mrs. Jewett has had. He is wise beyond his age, and that shows in and out of the classroom."
Parent(s)/Guardian(s): Matt & Ann Carlson
Student: Kyra Elizabeth Acker
Age: 9 Grade: 4th
Nominating Person(s): Carl Fangboner
"Kyra excels in a number of areas. One of those areas just happens to be mathematics! She has the innate desire to learn and understand. She asks questions to make sense of and to truly understand each new math skill. After Kyra has gained these insights, she is always ready to explain those same skills step-by-step and patiently to her classmates. She does this by asking them questions about what they do and do not understand with each process. Her comments to her classmates are always positive and supportive. Without being asked or directed to by me, she checks to see who else might need help. At times she has even chosen to give up parts of her recess and her own work times to help others. She encourages others to understand and succeed. She is just as pleased to see others succeed and excel as she is with her own successes. She makes her choices with a wonderfully positive attitude, a sense of humor and a smile on her face.Kyra is also involved at G.I.S. in the following ways: She is a member of the GIS "Kid's Crew", a member of the "Link Crew" for a classmate with Autism and has made the GIS 4th Grade All "A" Honor Roll for both quarters.
Kyra truly is a positive representative of Greyhound Intermediate School in all that she does."

Student: Jordyn Stone
Age: 13 Grade: 8th
Nominating Person(s): Haylee Dance
"All year, Jordyn has performed above and beyond in math class! Not only does she always do her best work (including a score of 100% on her semester exam!), she naturally helps out other students around her. Today, in fact, Jordyn and her partner were debating back and forth about a problem in their assigned investigation...it is so awesome to hear students "talk" mathematically!
Jordyn is a student that anyone, staff and students alike, is able to "count" on. She is very honest, respectful, responsible and caring. She is an ALL AROUND GREAT 8th GRADER!"
Parent(s)/Guardian(s): Robert Stone & Colleen Stone
Student: Kevin Rocheleau
Age: 17 Grade: Senior
Nominating Person(s): Tammy Mauer, Sandra Allison & Erik Smith
"Kevin is an exceptionally well rounded young man. Not only did he complete AP Calculus during his sophomore year, he has also been in Band, Marching Band, Wind Ensemble and Chamber Choir during his time attending Eaton Rapids High School. Kevin is a favorite among students and staff alike. He is a gentleman and is more mature than the average student. Mrs. Mauer had the pleasure of working with him in the classroom when he was taking classes at MSU through the CHAMP program (Cooperative Highly Competetive Math Program). CHAMP is designed so that participating students will learn all of the content required by the high school curriculum - a four year high school mathematics program - at an accelerated rate. The first year is Algebra 1 & Algebra 2 and the second year focuses on geometry, pre-calculus that consists of Trigonometry, Analytic Geometry, College Algebra and a brief introduction to Calculus Processes. He has completed so many courses here at ERHS that he now has very few classes with other ERHS students and instead takes many online courses from Michigan Virtual University. Kevin plans on attending Michigan Tech and has an interest in studying physics and possibly going into research."
